  • Cheques should be made payable to Pemberton Templeton.
  • 3) NOVELLA GUIDELINES

  • For this Contest, a novella is defined as any work of prose fiction.
  • Novellas must be written in English.
  • Novellas may be of any genre, but to ensure that all novellas are written within the time constraints, they must incorporate ALL of the Elements (the two to three objects or ideas that you will be asked to include in your novella. These will be available on the Pemberton Templeton site one hour before the contest begins.)
  • Only completed novellas will be accepted.
  • Novellas must be entirely written between 12:00am Sat, Aug 20, 2005, and 11:59pm Sun, Aug 21, 2005, Pacific Standard Time. Outlines may be prepared in advance, but absolutely none of the novella may be written before Aug 20, and no changes whatsoever are to be made after Aug 21.
  • Novellas must be double-spaced with standard margins, in 12-point Times or Times New Roman font. Word count: at least 6500.
  • Pages must be numbered.
  • 4) SUBMISSION

  • Novellas must be submitted electronically, via this site, according to the instructions given. (These will be posted on the site before the contest begins.)
  • Include with your novella the contract which affirms that you have conformed to the rules of regulations of this contract, and which grants one-time publication rights of your novella for the book of Contest winners. (See a copy of the contract here.) FAILURE TO INCLUDE THIS CONTRACT MAY RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION.
  • DO NOT include your name on the novella manuscript itself, as authors' names will not be given to the judge(s).
  • 5) JUDGING

  • Submissions may be screened before being given to the judges to ensure their compliance with the rules and regulations.
  • The judges will be announced before the contest begins. Every effort will be made to ensure that no judge reads the work of a contestant whom he or she knows.
  • If you are a contest finalist, you will be asked to submit a brief (100-word maximum) synopsis/description of your story and a brief (also 100-word maximum) autobiography for distribution among the Contest participants and for publication in the book of winners, should your novella be selected.
  • The judges will select one winner and two runners-up, each of which will receive prizes. All participants will be informed of who won the contest and how many people entered.
  • These Rules and Regulations are the same as last year’s and only updated to reflect the changes in the calendar year. So if you did the PT48HNWC before, you know what’s going on.
